For those out of the loop, a remake of a 1982 classic has been running on crunchyroll by the name of Space Adventure Cobra. The OAV’s and the 13 episode TV series are a great introduction to a classic series very few anime fans have ever heard of.
The remake is really quite nice, and I highly suggest a watch in between Summer anime and the new Fall line up. You might catch yourself becoming surprised at just how entertaining big butts and space pirates can be. But for those of you totally unfamiliar with the story, characters and unusual art style you might want to check out the original before embarking on the new material.

Here’s the thing – while the new remake is very good, has competent story telling and excellent action, the original 1982 Space Adventure Cobra became famous not because of the plethora of its butts, but due to the amazing art direction and exciting action packed stories.
Yes, even for someone who normally sees female sidekicks and action movies as a let down, this is seriously great stuff. The art is beautiful, the animation smooth and well done – even when Cobra is dicking around (which is often). The women are beautiful and the ducks are just…I can’t even begin to describe them with any justice.

Oh yeah, quack for me baby~~
For those who like their ladies and gentleman in metal, this is the show for you, as almost every episode comes complete with a clanging metal monstrosity as a villain or interesting element to the story.

The main story arc follows Cobra’s acquisition of three triplets spread across the universe and Cobra’s attempts to find them, as their bodies contain a map to an amazing treasure.

With the help of his ‘Android Lady’, Cobra travels the stars with death, tragedy and big butts in hot pursuit. All I can say is, look at this art and don’t make excuses any more. Watch an original, watch something worthwhile with tits and ass that actually matters.

…wait, what was I trying to justify again? Oh right, ARTISTIC CONTENT.

Look at the beautiful detail. Have you EVER seen something like this in recent memory?! In short, Go watch Cobra, before Godzilla is all we get on TV in the future.

The future is grim for the ordinary, blue collar worker. Until he realizes he has a psychogun grafted to his arm and smooth jazz numbers floating off into the night.

I stumbled across this blog by accident, but it’s always great to see a fellow Cobra fan. After my recent (past five years) exposure to the series, he instantly became my favorite character.
Great stuff.
